The Flaming Lips And Stardeath And White Dwarfs

The Flaming Lips And Stardeath And White DwarfsThe Flaming Lips And Stardeath And White Dwarfs With Henry Rollins And Peaches Doing Dark Side Of The Moon | WEA/Reprise 2010

At first the thought of anyone attempting to cover the inimitable Pink Floyd on such a classic album as the 1973 “The Dark Side Of The Moon” is somewhat ridiculous and unnecessary. It is a perfect moment in time and a great analysis of mans frailties and anxieties. The fact that it was the Flaming Lips And Stardeath And White Dwarfs With Henry Rollins And Peaches made it completely absurd. Now intrigued it merited a listen. Now approaching this with an open mind is a clear requirement of this musical journey. Pink Floyd purist’s may be terribly unsatisfied  with this homage to the legendary band. Knowing it was the Lips, Dwarfs, and Stardeath and with an open mind one gets a familiar soundtrack from an alternate post bizarre universe that only a fusion of these bands can provide. Is it meditative and gloriously encompassing like the original? ….No. No its not a deep trace inducing mind expanding experience  like that of the original ,but , it is an “Alice in Funkyland” kinda strange. Somewhat disturbing while being comforting at the same time. Sorta like the stage show in escape from New York ….not like real Broadway but at least its entertainment and as such better taken on its own as a piece of art rather than holding it up to compare to the original. Lips fans will love it and you might too.
