FREEDY JOHNSTON – Rain on the City

Freedy JohnstonFreedy Johnston -  ”Rain on the City.”Bar None Records, 2010.

Johnston is a songsmith, who with his musical chisel, skillfully crafts beautiful works evocative of Paul Simon and James Taylor. He has honed his skills over a long time, releasing twelve albums over the last twenty years. Johnston’s newest release, “Rain on the City” represents a comeback from a long haitus. His first in eight years, “Rain on the City” is a welcomed effort from an old-school songwriter.

This album has a lot to offer, and features a well-balanced combination of energized rock songs, as well as soothing acoustic folk tracks. His edgier tunes clearly call back to the ’60s and ’70s rock era. Freedy’s talent for songwriting is clearly demonstrated in compositions like “Livin’ Too Close To The Rio Grande,” “The Other Side Of Love,”  ” It’s Gonna Come Back To You,” and  “Venus Is Her Name.” Johnston’s songs inspire great contemplation, as they have a story-like quality to them that is often absent in music of today.
