MOS DEF – The Ecstatic

Mos Def Ecstatic Mos Def  - “The Ecstatic” June 9, 2009 on Downtown

Regarded as one of the most insightful artists of our time, musician, activist and actor Mos Def has captured the attention of critics and audiences alike with a celebrated body of work that has crossed all artistic genres—from music to the Broadway stage, film and television. On “The Ecstatic” Mos Def shows us this close to perfect release. With a few great tracks like “Life in marvelous times “, “Quiet Dog” and “History”,  this is his best work since “Black on both sides” . Though this album falls a little short compared to his debut solo work, it should be added to your collection by now. It will age like a good wine over the years, with its great beats and deep, socially conscious lyrics that make you think.  I look forward to this unpredictable artist’s next endeavors with interest and anticipation. This experimental record  for the rap world brings some welcomed new angles and a fresh approach.
